The new Village Plan aims to look forward realistically but positively to how we would like our village to evolve over the next few years. It is seven years since our previous plan and much has been improved as a result of what was proposed then. With the new Localism agenda from government, more powers and resources are being placed at the disposal of the Parish Councils. It is therefore very timely for us to review our aims.

The Village Plan 2011 reflects the results of detailed consultations with residents over the past 18 months on topics from highways and transport to the design and location of any new housing developments or other facilities.
The plan does not directly address the proposals published by the Isle of Wight Council in their Spring 2011 draft Island Plan, which identified potential sites within and around the village for future housing, although officials clarified the limited extent expected of any such development in a public meeting with the Wootton Bridge Parish Council on 17 May 2011 - see minutes here.
However, the Wootton Bridge Village Plan 2011 will establish the expresed wishes of residents, following the extensive consultations, on issues such as the scope and location of any future developments or local speed limits. Under new government legislation (the Localism Bill) expected to become law this autumn, community views will carry far more weight and influence. Our Village Plan is therefore an important statement of policy and potentially more influential on decisions affecting our community than anything local that has gone before.
It is your village and your plan. We aim to make it a living document reviewed at least annually. We hope you will contribute and have your say. Your Parish Council promises to listen, consult and act upon what you tell us you would like to achieve.
